The candidate will contribute to a matrixed research organization developing novel therapeutics towards neurodegeneration.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide conceptual input and technical biochemistry expertise to study protein aggregation and misfolding
    • Characterize biophysical properties of isolated proteins and protein aggregates
    • Apply biophysical techniques to study protein-protein interactions, as well as structural and covalent post-translational modifications of proteins
    • Develop purification and enrichment strategies to isolate proteins and antibodies from natural and recombinant sources
    • Identify and manage CROs to complement in house capabilities
    • Contribute to supervision and mentorship of lab members within the Protein Sciences group

    Qualifications

    Education and experience:

    • Ph.D in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or related field with 0-3 years industrial or postdoctoral experience, OR B.S./M.S. with 7-10 years industrial experience
    • The ability to independently design, execute and analyze experiments to address novel scientific questions regarding protein misfolding, structure-function relationships and/or protein-protein interactions
    • Comprehensive hands-on experience and understanding of techniques used for protein extraction and purification from tissue, cell and recombinant sources (including but not limited to FPLC and centrifugal separations)
    • Hands-on experience and understanding of biophysical techniques used for protein characterization, e.g. gel electrophoresis, HPLC, DSC/DSF, DLS, mass spectrometry

    Competencies and Attributes:

    • Demonstrated leadership to drive results that are needed to achieve company objectives in accord with Prothena’s culture and values – courageous, imaginative, selfless and joyful
